How a West High School Softball Superstar got Back on the Field

LEXI-MONTY

Baseball and softball are in full swing right now, with kids filling the diamonds all over the Quad Cities. It’s great fun, for sure! But it carries some risk, especially when the kids over train and end up injured and on the bench.

Lexy can’t throw yet, but can hit and run for the West High School Falcons while she recovers from her throwing injury.

In fact, it’s all too common, as 16-year-old Lexy Monty found out earlier this year. A superstar pitcher and hitter for Davenport West High School, Lexy suffered an overuse injury that led to a major shoulder tear.

(Click here to read up on how parents can help prevent overuse injuries in young baseball and softball players.)

Lexy’s shoulder injury would have been a career-ender in another time, but thanks to minimally invasive shoulder surgery techniques and ORA Orthopedics’ Dr. Ryan Dunlay, she’s on track to break Davenport West’s home run record.

Lexy and sports medicine surgeon Dr. Dunlay explain in WQAD’s Let’s Move Quad Cities report what happened and how her injury was successfully repaired:
